Buyer/Procurement Officer

This role is critical in procuring high-quality and cost-efficient supplies for the company. You will follow procurement procedures, maintain the back order report, ensure that timely and accurate deliveries are done, and ensure that we procure from a list of approved suppliers which comply with our requirements and expectations.


Reporting to:

Chief Financial Officer and will work under guidance of Supply Chain Manager

Experience:

  • Five or more years’ experience in procurement.

  • Appropriate qualifications to support this role.

  • Strong understanding of the procurement process & role requirements.

  • Must be able to suggest & implement process controls & improvements.

  • Must have experience in dealing with construction equipment (yellow plant) & automotive spares.

  • Ability to read technical drawings

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of procurement processes, policy, systems and document flows.


Main job functions:

  • Able to procure according to approved job cards or requirements lists.

  • Create and maintain good relationships with vendors/suppliers.

  • Make professional decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Maintain records of purchases, pricing, and other relevant data.

  • Able to appoint suppliers based on a predetermined and approved selection criterion.

  • Review and analyse all vendors/suppliers, supply, and price options.

  • Develop plans & cycles for purchasing equipment, services, and supplies.

  • Negotiate the best deal for stock, non-stock items & bulk items.

  • Manage price variances & discrépances to a minimum.

  • Manage all partial orders to completion.

  • Procurement of imported products.

  • Maintenance and management of the backorder reports on the system.

  • Ensure that deliveries are scheduled and delivered on time per branch.

  • Work closely with storeman & the supply chain manager in terms of inventory management and control in order to maintain acceptable min/max stock levels.

  • Verification of stock availability in stores before placing orders to keep stock levels at minimum.

  • Management of lead times and expectations of workshop and branches.

  • Ensure adherence to implemented procurement policy.
